Router is a ASUS RT-66U (the "R" version from Best Buy). Passkey and encyption is setup the same between 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz bands Encryption: WPA2- Personal AES-CCMP on both bands. 2.4 The 2.4GHz and 5GHz (dual band) lights even stay up on the router. On one occasion, both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz network completely disappeared. On 4 occasions, just the 2.4GHz network has disappeared - the 5GHz one continued broadcasting. I don't think it's an interference problem. It's happened on channel 1, 6 and 11.
I have an Asus RT-AC88U running MerlinWRT 384.6. Two weeks ago, hours before I was due to leave for vacation, the 5GHz network band stopped working properly and dropped off. Since I like accessing some things on my network remotely, I wanted to fix this, but I ended up moving them to 2.4 until I had time to fix it.
The Asus DSL-N55U is a router intended for use with ADSL and ADSL2+ services and includes an ADSL modem, rather than the Ethernet WAN port of the very similar RT-N66U router we have also reviewed. The similarity between the two routers extends beyond the black design with the web interface offering almost identical functionality. Ever since the firmware updates where they blocked non-approved third-party f third-party firmware's from being installed, I've been struggling to keep my 2.4 WLAN network from losing connection. I'd revert back but that gets refused too. The only way to get the network up again is to reboot, power off etc. which only occasionally works. My current settings: I've tried all wireless modes If it's a combination of hardware and 802.11n not working as advertised then so be it. I don't plan to buy a new router because I'm not confident the devices I use wireless on would support 801.22ac.
